Halabala Bentwood Armchair
Halabala Bentwood Armchair
This elegant 1950s Halabala bentwood armchair is a limited-edition, one-off restoration by The Rare Chair Company, expertly revived by our artisan team. Restored from an original mid-century design, it has been reupholstered in luxurious teal velvet with crisp white piping, accentuating its fluid bentwood curves and timeless silhouette. The result is a perfect harmony of vintage craftsmanship and contemporary sophistication.
Designed in the 1930s and 1950s by Jindřich Halabala, one of the most influential figures in Czech furniture design, the Halabala chair epitomises the transition between Art Deco elegance and modernist functionality. Working for the renowned United Arts and Crafts company (UP Závody), Halabala pioneered accessible, high-quality furniture that merged sculptural form with ergonomic comfort. His bentwood and tubular steel designs became icons of European modernism — highly sought-after today for their enduring style and exceptional build quality.
This restored armchair captures that same spirit of innovation. Its sweeping bentwood arms, generous seat, and refined teal velvet upholstery make it both a work of art and a piece of living history. Each detail, from the white piping to the satin-smooth finish of the frame, has been executed by hand in our workshop, respecting the chair’s original integrity while ensuring it fits effortlessly into a modern interior. Ideal as a statement piece in a living room, reading corner, or design-led space, this Halabala armchair brings together heritage, sustainability, and artistry.
As a one-of-a-kind restoration, it reflects The Rare Chair Company’s commitment to preserving mid-century design through expert craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics.
A beautiful chair with generous padding to provide a supportive seating position. A lovely aged patina to the woodwork. A true statement piece and a wise investment.
